UltraEdit & UEStudio 2024.3 is now available to download. This is a quality focused release that features several improvements for all users and key product areas.
We highly advise looking through the list of improvements and fixes from various user requests. This includes improvements in editing/formatting, function list, XML file handling, application theme management, search and more.

Editing Improvements
These changes focus on resolving common editing problems that users encounter, such as incorrect focus shifts during editing with tiled windows, issues with line end positioning, and paragraph reformatting inconsistencies.
Additionally, the release addresses technical glitches like incorrect character displays in UTF-8 files and hangs during XML reformatting. Here are the complete list of changes:
- Focus shifts to wrong file during editing when file is modified by an external application
- Fixed “Allow positioning beyond line end” setting for certain cases
- Reformat paragraph does not reformat all selected lines with specific contents
- Invalid characters displayed for specific UTF-8 files and language/region settings
- Significant performance enhancement when reformatting XML for certain XML files
Search, function list, and sum selection improvements
The following set of changes are for handling search queries and other similar dialogs. This should improve overall behavior and resolve unexpected issues when working with and on specific text and data sets:
- Perl regex Find returns empty error dialog in certain cases
- Shift + Enter find previous command option for find dialog is not saved
- Unexpected results with sum selection and incorrect settings for locale
- Sum column/selection result field sizing and presentation
- Function list content changes after minor edit and save with certain files

- CTRL+N will not create new file when no files are open if File Explorer is docked
- Restore Project functionality is not working as expected with some projects
- Create new file fails after application minimizes to system tray due to sleep settings
- “Disable” options from File handling -> Large files added to command palette
- Improved formatting and content of changes.txt
- Improved display of “Manage themes” dialog for UHD screens and certain scaling settings
- Addressed writeText scripting API allowing text write to Read-Only files
- Removing a script does not free up the associated hotkey
- Addressed versioning inconsistencies for “Start support request” content
- Crash after pasting very long line and pressing CTRL+SHIFT+HOME with specific data
- Crash when double-clicking on divider between source HTML and live preview content
- Crashes or hangs on startup with some system configurations
What’s Next for UltraEdit?
You’ve reached the end of UE 2024.3 updates but we have some news about what’s in store for UltraEdit for this coming year of development.
We’re now working on taking our plugin framework to its next iteration. This will most likely include the plugin SDK we teased a while back plus new ways to create and manage the plugins.
And like we did in this release, we’re also renewing our focus on user-requested enhancements and quality improvements, building on the successes of the 2024.3 version.
